Use this bright and beautiful Strawberry Sauce on your breakfast dishes and desserts to add a burst of fruity, summery flavor any time of year.

I’m a berry-head. Is that a thing, or did I just make it up? Either way, I love berries. All of them—blueberries, blackberries, raspberries. Berries are my favorite fruits, not just for snacking, but also for layering into my breakfast yogurt parfaits and mixing together in vibrant fruit salads.

What’s that, you say? I left strawberries off the list? Not at all! I was just saving the best for last. At least, the best in my book. Strawberries are my absolute favorite fruit. I eat them in season and out (because luckily, you can get them all year round!), and they bring me so much joy. One of my favorite ways to enjoy these luscious berries now is in this strawberry sauce. Cooking them down with a little sugar and lemon juice transforms them into the most luxurious sauce—sweet and tart, with an intense strawberry flavor and a lovely consistency that’s both smooth and a bit chunky. There’s so much you can do with strawberry sauce, but I have to confess: once it cools, I always sneak a few spoonfuls straight from the pot.

All you need to make it are three simple ingredients and a little time. It couldn’t be easier, which means you can make it as often as you want. It’s also super fridge- and freezer-friendly, so consider making a double batch. You’ll be glad to have it ready whenever the craving strikes!

The health benefits of strawberries

Low in calories, high in fiber, and containing no fat or cholesterol, strawberries are a delicious part of a healthy diet. They are packed with antioxidants such as vitamin C. In fact, a serving of strawberries (about eight) contains more vitamin C than an orange! Strawberries contain lots of essential minerals such as manganese and potassium. Naturally sweet, they’re perfect for satisfying cravings in a wholesome and delectable way! Plenty of reasons to keep a bowl of them on your counter to snack on all summer long!

How do I store leftovers?

Cooled strawberry sauce will last in the refrigerator up to 1 week in an airtight container. You can also freeze it in freezer-safe containers or ice cube trays for up to 3 months.

Serving suggestions

Strawberry sauce pairs very well with lemon flavors. Spread some strawberry sauce on Lemon Bars or drizzle some on top of Lemon Cupcakes to take these two sweet treats to another level. Love chocolate-covered strawberries? See what happens when you add a layer of strawberry sauce on top of the strawberry buttercream layers in this Chocolate Strawberry Cake. Or if you don’t have time to make a cake, just spoon it onto Dark Chocolate Ice Cream.

So many other desserts are just elevated by the addition of strawberry sauce, like Ricotta Cheesecake, Easy Vanilla Bundt Cake, or this Easy Pavlova. You can make an incredible version of strawberry shortcake with Cream Cheese Biscuits, strawberry sauce, and this heavenly Diplomat Cream. But strawberry sauce is also a great way to make breakfast special. Pour it over Homemade Buttermilk Pancakes or swirl it into Banana Oatmeal. Delicious!
