Embrace the TikTok home entertaining trend with this guide for crafting a playful yet elegant spread that invites sweet sampling!

Social media influences everything—especially food trends. Case in point: Chef Joshua McFadden’s concept for a butter board in his 2017 cookbook stayed on the down-low until online influencer Justine Doiron posted her version on TikTok. From there, it took almost no time for other creatives to push the idea into the dessert realm, subbing in peanut butter and sweet toppings for the butter base and savory elements of the original.

This viral peanut butter board recipe is your opportunity to embrace the trend! If charcuterie boards have made your home entertaining feel mundane, a peanut butter board is the perfect way to freshen your game. It offers nearly unlimited opportunities for innovation and creativity. Plus, this dish requires zero baking or cooking—unless you opt for homemade elements over store-bought.

For example, any streusel or crushed cookies will work as a main topping. But the topping from this Streusel French Toast Casserole recipe adds extra delight. Or go for crushed Reese’s Peanut Butter Cookies, Butterfinger Cookies, or Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cookies for personalized flavors.

Whether you go fully from scratch or keep it simple with pre-made components, a viral peanut butter board brings shareable fun to the table. Everyone from kids to grown-ups to seniors will enjoy scooping up your sweet and savory snacks!

Tips for an elevated experience

For an upscale feel, use a marble or acacia wood charcuterie board as your base. Polish it with a food-safe oil for a gleaming finish and line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Offer small spreaders, mini spoons, or tasting knives so guests can serve themselves cleanly and stylishly.

Swap peanut butter for Nutella to sweeten the deal further. Or skip the honey and go for a drizzle of maple syrup, caramel sauce, hot fudge sauce, or warmed fruit jam to layer in more flavors.

If your peanut butter is very runny, refrigerate it for 20–30 minutes before spreading so it firms up and stays in place. Or skip the store-bought stuff and seriously level up with this guide for How To Make Perfect Peanut Butter from scratch in only 15 minutes!

Add color with fruit, candies, or garnishes—think Chocolate-Covered Strawberries, green apple slices, or gold caramel drizzle. Visual balance matters, so distribute colors evenly across the board.

A light sprinkle of flaky sea salt adds shine and contrast against smooth peanut butter, while gold dust or decorative sprinkles create a photogenic finish for parties.

Tailor your spread to the seasons: In autumn, layer with Gingersnap Cookie Butter, chopped pecans, mini candy pumpkins, and pretzel sticks for a “harvest” effect. Add festive winter charm with red-and-green candies, Sugared Cranberries, or Candy Cane Cookies. Welcome spring with the fresh look of pastel candies and edible blossoms. Create a summery s’mores vibe with berries, banana chips, and this Homemade Vanilla Bean Marshmallows Recipe alongside the graham crackers.

For a finishing element, chill the peanut butter layer slightly before drizzling on the honey. This step helps the spread hold its shape through all the dipping.

How do I store leftovers?

A fully assembled peanut butter board is best enjoyed fresh. You can store leftovers—without fruit or dairy—tightly covered with plastic wrap in the fridge for up to 1 day. This dish does not freeze well—but you can freeze peanut butter alone for up to 6 months in a freezer-safe container.

To preserve some of the components, you can recreate a “deconstructed” version of your board. Spoon portions of peanut butter into small airtight containers and top with a handful of peanut butter chips, chocolate chips, or streusel. They’ll keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reassemble as mini boards.

Serving suggestions

Serve your peanut butter board alongside other playful, self-serve dishes. These Oreo Cake Pops make a delightfully sweet pairing, as does a bowl of this crunchy Puppy Chow Recipe. If you’re going for a full dipping experience, add Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ice Cream and this Strawberry Fool Recipe to the table for a variety of tastes and textures.

Ingredients

  • 1- 1 1/4 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup streusel topping or crushed cookies of choice
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • Graham crackers, cookies, sliced fruit, pretzels, mini waffles, etc. for topping and serving

Instructions

  • Line a marble, wooden, or slate serving board with parchment or wax paper for easier cleanup and to prevent oil absorption.
  • Spoon peanut butter onto the center of the board. Using the back of a spoon or a small offset spatula, spread it into a thin, even layer, leaving a border around the edges for dippers. Create swirls and ridges in the peanut butter to hold toppings.
  • Evenly drizzle honey over the peanut butter. Sprinkle with streusel topping (or crushed cookies), peanut butter chips, and chocolate chips.

  • Place graham crackers, cookies, fruit slices, and any other dippers around the peanut butter center to fill in the edges of the board.
  • Serve immediately. For neater presentation, offer small spreader knives or spoons to scoop peanut butter and toppings onto dippers.
