Ditch the usual birthday cake this year and try making these tasty Oreo Cake Pops instead!

As a professional pastry chef, I can get quite bored of making fancy layered cakes for my friends and family. That’s why I always have this delicious Oreo cake pop recipe in my back pocket. These pops are super easy to make, look adorable, and are absolutely mouthwatering. With their dense crumb and deep chocolaty flavor, they’re a treat that’s hard to beat. I love making them whenever I am hosting a crowd of people over for dinner, since they are so much easier to manage than slicing and portioning a whole layered cake. That said, they are also the ultimate treat for bake sales and children’s birthday parties.

You’ll only need simple ingredients for this recipe: just crumbled Oreo cookies, soft cream cheese, tangy Greek yogurt, chocolate candy melts, and vegetable oil. And because it is so simple to make, it is the perfect recipe to get kids involved! So, throw on your apron and get baking!

Where can I find lollipop sticks?

You can find lollipop sticks being sold at most culinary stores or online. If you can’t find any lollipop sticks, feel free to use toothpicks or wooden skewers. You can also make it without any lollipop sticks or skewers—just enjoy them as bite-sized cake balls.

How do I store leftovers?

You can store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. I recommend placing them between parchment paper to prevent them from sticking to each other. You can also freeze them for about 2 months. In that case, double-wrap them in plastic before transferring them to a freezer-safe container or Ziploc bag. Thaw them in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.

Serving suggestions

These cake pops make the perfect ending to a wonderful dinner! Last week, I hosted a few friends over for dinner, and I made these Boneless Skinless Chicken Thighs, some Roasted Brussels Sprouts, and this House Salad, then ended the night with these delicious Oreo cake pops. If you’re not making dinner, then you can pair these cake pops with this Copycat Starbucks Vanilla Spice Latte or a cup of this Rich And Creamy Hot Chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 38 Oreo cookies
  • 6 ounces cream cheese softened to room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt
  • 5 ounces chocolate candy melts
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • Chocolate sprinkles for decorating optional

Instructions

  • Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and process until you have fine crumbs.
  • In a large bowl, mix the Oreo crumbs with softened cream cheese and Greek yogurt until well combined. If the mixture seems dry, add 1 more tablespoon of Greek yogurt at a time until it reaches a consistency you can roll into a ball.
  • Form the mixture into 20 balls (about 1 1/2 inches in diameter) using your hands or a spoon, and place them on a parchment-lined tray.
  • Freeze the balls for about 15 minutes to firm up.
  • Melt the chocolate candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl using 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval. Once completely melted, mix in the vegetable oil.
  • Coat the tip of a lollipop stick in melted chocolate and push it halfway into each ball to better hold the stick in place.
  • Dip each ball into the melted chocolate, letting any excess chocolate drip away.
  • If desired, sprinkle with a few sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet, then place the cake pops back on the tray.
  • Allow the cake pops to set at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving.
