Don’t have much time, but need to get your veggie fix on? Try pan-frying your spears!

Mom always told us to eat our veggies as kids. Much to most of our chagrin, of course – why isn’t birthday cake or mint chocolate chip ice cream okay for dinner? What about Frosted Flakes or Twinkies? We now all know why – veggies are loaded with nutrients. Some veggies are especially good for us, often labeled ‘superfoods’ and asparagus is one such vegetable that comfortably sits in that category. Why? Because this bright green veggie offers vitamins B6, A, E, C, and K. Asparagus also gives you a dose of fiber and copper. And it has iron, protein, and calcium, too.

What Size of Asparagus Stalks Should I Buy?

You can pick any size of spears you choose, but we suggest using medium spears. Heartier, fat spears can also handle high heat and can be easier to move around the pan. However, they can be tougher in texture. Thin spears can get limp and mushy when the heat is high.

Why These Stalks Are Worth Stalking…

Do you like simple and delicious? You’ve got it here! Some say that pan-fried asparagus may be even more delicious than its oven-roasted counterpart. And making it is a breeze – very little effort or time is needed.

If you enjoy asparagus no matter how it’s cooked, try this Grilled version. Perfect for the summer grill, it pairs well with all your grilled meat favorites and is seasoned with Borsari salt. Or as a healthier alternative to French fries, try these Asparagus Fries. Just as tasty and crispy, and featuring Parmesan cheese, your family won’t want to go back to the standard side dish. If you’re a roaster, you’ll like this Parmesan Roasted Asparagus. Also featuring Parmesan cheese, this easy side dish is elegant enough to serve with steak for a special dinner.

FAQs & Tips

Can I Store This Asparagus For Later?

It’s best the day it’s cooked – but it’ll be good for up to 3 days in the fridge. Cook it, cool it, then stick it in a lidded container. You can warm it up or eat it cold. To reheat it, put it in a hot pan for half a minute on each side. Keep in mind, we don’t recommend freezing it as it alters the texture of the veggies too much.

Should I Soak My Asparagus?

If you so wish. Simply cut off the ends, rinse the spears, and put them in cold water for five minutes. Because they already have some water in them, your asparagus spears will cook more speedily. However, don’t let them soak any longer than that as they’ll get limp and soggy.

What Else Can I Use to Top My Asparagus?

Ground almonds or walnuts add some crunch to your asparagus. Lemon, Parmesan and mozzarella cheese also make top-notch toppers.

Serving Suggestions

Think protein. Eggs are especially yummy with this dish, and unexpected as a dinner entrée. Try this Easy Shakshuka. The decadence of eggs baked in spiced tomato sauce and featuring feta cheese highlight this version of the Middle Eastern favorite. And it only takes 20 minutes to prepare, so it’ll make a speedy meal with your speedy asparagus.

Make a light and healthy summer meal by trying this Herb-Baked Chicken Breast. Nutritious and tasty, this recipe features rosemary, oregano, and tarragon for a flavor fiesta. Balsamic chicken also goes well with asparagus – this Baked Balsamic Chicken is especially tasty. Just add a baked potato, and a Sangiovese or Sauvignon Blanc to your meal, and voilà – a successful evening!

No matter what your asparagus aspirations are, you’ll enjoy this quick and delicious dish!
