Make your special announcement even sweeter by surprising your family and friends with these Gender Reveal Cake Pops!

A few weeks ago, I had the honor of hosting my first baby shower for my dear friend Sarah, who’s expecting a baby girl in the coming months. Since she was planning on revealing the gender to our friend group at the shower, I wanted to find a creative and fun way for her to do it. Stumbling across this recipe for these gender reveal cake pops, I knew I found the perfect way to help her surprise everyone.
Containing only a handful of ingredients and with only 20 minutes of active cooking time, these cake pops were super easy to make and tasted absolutely divine. I had loads of tasks to get done on the actual day of the shower, so I decided to make the cake pops the night before, and they stayed fresh in the fridge overnight, which meant I could focus on the shower preparations without any last-minute stress in the kitchen. Plus, the recipe calls for boxed cake mix, which is a huge help when you’re feeding over 25 people already and just can’t seem to find the time to make cake from scratch. But the best part? Watching everyone’s faces light up as they bit into the pops and discovered the pink surprise inside.

What even are candy melts and where can I find them?
For those of you who don’t know, candy melts are a confectionery coating made from a combination of sugar, oil, and flavorings that are designed to easily melt down and give your sweet treats a hard, smooth, satin finish. They are typically used for dripping, drizzling, or dipping food like pretzels, cookies, brownies, and, of course, cake pops! You can find them being sold at most grocery stores and specialty culinary stores; however, you can substitute them with regular white chocolate if you can’t find them.

How do I store leftovers?
Store any leftover cake pops in an airtight container lined with parchment paper and keep them in the fridge for up to 5 days. You can also store them in the freezer for up to 2 months. To defrost, thaw them overnight or for a few hours in the fridge. Feel free to serve them either chilled or at room temperature.

Serving suggestions
Anytime I make cake pops or something sweet, I always find myself craving coffee. Last week, when I made a batch of these for my nephews for an afternoon snack, I whipped up this Homemade Iced Americano and a few cups of this Rich And Creamy Hot Chocolate for the kiddos. To combat all the sugary sweetness, I also threw together this Citrus Mint Fruit Salad to go alongside.

Gender Reveal Cake Pops
Ingredients
- 1 box white cake mix plus required eggs, oil, and water as on box
- Blue or pink gel food coloring to tint the batter lightly
- 4 tablespoons white frosting plus more as needed
- 24 cake pop sticks
- 12 ounces white candy melts or white melting chocolate
- 1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil
- Blue and pink sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Clear some space in your freezer for the cake pops. Mix the white cake mix with the eggs, oil, and water as directed on the box. Add a few drops of blue or pink food coloring, depending on your chosen reveal color, to achieve a gentle tint in the batter.

- Grease a 9×13-inch pan, add the batter, and bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely. If the cake has a crusted top layer, trim it off.
- Crumble the cooled cake in a large bowl. Add 4 tablespoons of white frosting and mix with your hands until a dough forms. If the mixture is dry, add a bit more frosting until the mixture holds together without falling apart.
- Using roughly 2 tablespoons of the mixture at a time, shape the dough into balls by rolling it between your palms. Arrange the cake balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

- Melt a small amount of the candy melts in the microwave, then dip the tip of each cake pop stick into it and insert it halfway into each cake ball. Freeze the balls for about 1 hour.

- When the hour is almost up, melt the leftover candy melts along with the vegetable oil in the microwave, using 20-30 second intervals and stirring between each.
- Dip each cake pop into the melted coating, letting the extra drip off. Immediately sprinkle with blue and pink sprinkles before the coating hardens. Let the cake pops set completely before serving.
