A frozen treat on a hot summer day? Yes, please! The Frozen Bananas, topped with chocolate and sprinkles, is an easy-to-make snack that the kids will love.

Chocolate-covered banana pops with colorful sprinkles on a neutral background, a delicious frozen treat.

Nothing says summer like a frozen treat. Kids running around the pool with Drumsticks and Otter Pops. I have nothing against an Otter Pop, well, maybe a little. But this a fun, homemade, treat that you can whip up in no time. Yes, I am aware that this a banana covered in chocolate, but at least it is fruit. It verges on healthy? Chocolate is good for you right? In moderation? It is fun to make, and definitely something that the kids can help you do and will love to help with. We used Jimmies to cover our frozen bananas, but you could use chopped nuts, coconut, whatever you want to cover them, or you could leave them as is.

Ingredients

  • Bananas
  • 1 bag milk or semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3 Tablespoons vegetable or canola oil (I forgot all about the oil trick until I started making these, hence why it was left out of the ingredients shot, sorry!)
  • Corn dog sticks (or popsicle sticks)
  • Jimmies (or sprinkles depending on where you were raised)

Instructions

Step 1:

Peel some bananas and insert a stick. The bananas will most likely start to break, but it is okay, when they are frozen and covered in chocolate, you will never know. Put the bananas in the freezer and the let them freeze completely. 2 hours?

Step 2:

After the bananas are completely frozen, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave. Follow the directions on the bag for melting in the microwave. Add the vegetable oil and mix completely. The oil thins out the chocolate and helps it set up.

Step 3:

Cover the banana in chocolate.

Set 4:

Sprinkle with jimmies and put them back in the freezer to set completely.

Step 5:

Once they are frozen solid, they are ready for eating.

The kids loved these frozen treats. Make a bunch and have them in the freezer and ready to go on a hot summer day. Easy to make, easy to eat, my kind of treat.
