This dirt cake is a sweet and tasty treat that you can make with your kids. Topped with crushed Oreos, the easy-to-make cake is bound to be a success.

Why I Decided to Make Dirt Cakes in Flower Cups?

We went to a friend’s house for Easter brunch and I wanted to bring something fun for the kids for dessert. You see, I am a bit of a control freak. I usually have all of the holidays at my house. It was a welcome break to be invited somewhere for Easter believe me, and it was ridiculously fun, but it was weird to not have it myself.

I am used to menu planning, shopping for days, prepping, cooking, and drinking too much champagne day of, because I am sort of worn out by the time the actual holiday rolls around. While I was thrilled to be surrounded by my friend’s family, it made me miss mine that much more. It is really hard to live 3,000 miles away sometimes. But this family treated us like we were one of theirs and for that I am grateful.

So I made these adorable little (maybe not so little) dirt cakes for the kids to have after the egg hunt. I had a hard time finding the right size flower pot. These were 4 inch pots but 2 inch would have been a better size. I made 10 of them with some leftover, so if you are not making this for a giant crowd, I would half this recipe. My children had a great time helping me make these and were good little helpers. I know that these are super cute and sort of girly, so we hid gummy worms, and slugs, and bugs in them for the boys. To even out the cute factor.

*edited to add – I found the perfect size flower pots at Michaels, after I made these. Why didn’t I think to look there? *

Cream cheese, milk, Oreos, vanilla, pudding mix, and whipped topping for Oreo cookie pudding dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 packages Oreos crushed (leave 10 or however many pots you are making whole to plug the bottom of your pot)
  • 2 packages chocolate pudding
  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 sticks cream cheese softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pack of worm gummy candies
Rich coffee grounds in small terracotta cups, perfect for brewing or aromatic use.

Instructions

Step 1: Make the chocolate pudding according to the package directions. Whip the cream. Set aside. Cream the cream cheese with the sugar and vanilla.

Step 2: Add the cream cheese mixture in a bowl.

Step 3: Combine the pudding into the cream cheese mixture. Then fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture. Doesn’t this look yummy?

Step 4: Blend the ingredients well.

Step 5: Get your pots ready. I ran these through the dishwasher and let them dry overnight. Put a whole Oreo on top of the hole in the bottom of the flower pot so that the pudding does not leak out.

Recruit some helpers. Make them wear an adorable apron.

Step 6: Layer some crushed Oreos on the top of the whole Oreo. Add the pudding mixture. Drop in some gross gummy candies. We used this.

Step 7: Cover the top with more crushed Oreos.

Step 8: Add some clean fake flowers – I ran mine under hot water and let them dry on a towel, that’s clean enough right?

Step 9: Let the pots chill for at least one hour or overnight. I made these the day before.

There you have it. A dessert that is fun to make, super adorable, and delicious to eat. Make some with your children and share it at your next holiday get together.

How many Oreos did you use to crush. The amount in a package varies in different countries.
