These Dehydrated Strawberries are a beautiful, easy-to-store ‘chip’ great for snacks or garnishing!

I have a kid at home who loves all things strawberries. Any strawberry candy in the store catches his eye. Strawberry lollipops, strawberry gummies, strawberry bonbons, assorted strawberry hard candies—you get the idea. But I don’t necessarily want to indulge in so many sugary treats! So, as a healthy, go-to snack, I have dehydrated strawberries!

These dehydrated strawberries are basically chips made out of strawberries. My personal favorite aspect is that I can make a big batch and store them for ages. I find myself grabbing a few, even though I made them for my kids!

What you’re going to love is the taste and the texture. It’s somewhere between chewy and crunchy, not quite crossing completely over into either, and preserving that delicious burst of strawberry flavor.

Fresh and ripe

There’s only one ingredient in dehydrated strawberries, and you want to make sure that one ingredient is the best quality you can get. As such, you are going to want to pick the freshest, ripest, most beautiful strawberries you can find for this recipe. Don’t do frozen strawberries, and definitely do not use canned strawberries. The more full of fresh flavor your strawberries are to start with, the fuller flavor you’ll have in your dehydrated strawberries.

How do I store leftovers?

The key to long-term storage of your dehydrated strawberries is controlling the moisture content in your storage container. Use an airtight container that has been thoroughly cleaned and sterilized. If you get this right, you can make them last for months at room temperature. I recommend getting a food-grade silica gel packet to add to each container you use, as this will help reduce moisture inside your sealed container. Keep them in a cool, dark place like a food pantry.

Serving suggestions

While dehydrated strawberries work beautifully as a stand-alone snack, you can definitely combine them with other foods as a topping! For example, they go wonderfully on top of Healthy Baked Oatmeal or a Microwave Oatmeal. You can mix them with some Slow-Cooker Sweet-And-Spicy Nuts and Oven-Dried Apples as a unique trail mix. If you’ve got a sweet tooth and are in the mood for a dessert, consider using them as a garnish on top of a Chocolate-Strawberry Cake or Strawberry Cupcakes.
