This easy-to-make mixed berry smoothie is refreshing, and you would never guess that there is also a generous handful of healthy greens in there.

I am a big fan of the smoothie, and this one happens to be my favorite right now. This is a great one if you are trying to get your kids on the green smoothie train because it keeps its pinky-purple color and they will have no idea that they are drinking bunches of spinach. Any extras are really good frozen in popsicle molds for an after school snack.

The coconut and pineapple flavors really mask any spinach aftertaste, so not only will kids be fooled into getting their veggies but you will, too! This mixed berry smoothie is so easy to make for a quick and easy breakfast on the go and has plenty of vitamins and nutrients to keep you full and switched on all morning.

Why You Will Love This Smoothie

  • This is a super refreshing and nutritious way to start your day.
  • A surefire way to sneak veggies into your diet (or your kids’) with flavorful berries, pineapple, and coconut to mask the flavor.
  • An easy breakfast or snack that comes together in minutes, or can be made ahead when you’re in a rush.
  • Plenty of vitamins and nutrients to keep you going strong all morning.

Variations

Smoothies are easy to alter to your liking. All you need is a base (coconut water in this instance), mix-ins, and optional added flavors and nutrients. Below are a few ideas on variations of this mixed berry smoothie recipe.

  • Swap the coconut water for orange juice to make a tarter, fruitier smoothie.
  • Replace the pineapple with mangoes, green apples, or bananas to change the flavors of your smoothie.
  • Use any frozen fruit in substitution of mixed berries. Using frozen fruit mostly contributes to the thickness, so you can use frozen strawberries, frozen cherries, or frozen blueberries instead.
  • Make a veggie-centric smoothie by replacing the fruits with more spinach, kale, celery, carrots, beets, or avocado.

Hint: This smoothie goes great with other hearty, make-ahead breakfast items, like overnight Irish oatmeal.

Make Ahead

You can make this smoothie the day before you plan on drinking it, just keep it sealed and cold in the fridge. You can also make several batches of this mixed berry smoothie and keep them frozen for future use.

How healthy is a mixed berry smoothie?

This smoothie recipe is packed full of antioxidants, healthy fats from the coconut, and lots of vitamins. It does have a fair amount of sugar but this is all from the fruit, so it’s natural.

How to Store a Mixed Berry Smoothie

Keep any leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator if you plan on having it within the next 24 hours. Otherwise, you can keep your mixed berry smoothie in the freezer for up to 3 months and defrost in the fridge overnight. (Freeze in single servings so you only defrost what you’ll drink the next day.)
