Party of one? Enjoy cookies-and-cream perfection with this Oreo Mug Cake.

My younger son has always loved Oreo cookies. Not just Oreos, but anything cookies-and-cream-related. A few years ago, he had a really exciting day at school—he won the geography bee (unexpectedly!). Although we had a busy evening, I wanted to make something special to celebrate his victory. A mug cake seemed ideal, and Oreos needed to be part of it. And so, this Oreo mug cake was perfect.

While Oreos themselves have been around a long time—they were first introduced by Nabisco in 1912—mug cakes are a relative newcomer. Like a lot of mug cakes, the Oreo mug cake was popularized on social media. What started as a TikTok trend went viral, and you can find virtually any variety of mug cake on the app. Mug cakes go viral for good reason: you can treat yourself (or a kiddo, in my case) easily and quickly!

You will love this Oreo mug cake because it is a perfect cookies-and-cream-flavored treat, uses just a few ingredients, and is ready within minutes. Oreos have that delicious combo of crunchy chocolate cookie and iconic creamy filling, and you get all of that in this cake. No fancy equipment is needed either: just the ingredients plus a mug, a spoon or fork, and a microwave! Oreo mug cake is a breeze to prepare when the craving hits.

What Is Baking Powder?

If you’ve ever made any kind of baked good before, you’ve undoubtedly used baking powder. Normally packed in a small can with a plastic lid, it’s commonly used in everything from cakes to biscuits to muffins. So what exactly is baking powder? It’s a leavening agent—which means it makes baked goods airy and fluffy. Baking powder is a fine, white powder made up of baking soda, an acid, and cornstarch or rice flour. It keeps for a long time on the shelf, but always check the expiration date, because old baking powder won’t work as well as fresh.

How To Make Ahead And Store

Since Oreo mug cake is a recipe for one, you probably won’t have leftovers! And it’s so easy, there’s not much need to make ahead. However, if you want to have it ready to go, a little prep can go a long way. You can crush the cookies ahead of time and store them at room temperature in a resealable bag for up to a week. And if you don’t get a chance to finish your cooked mug cake, just put some plastic wrap on the cooled mug and it will keep in the fridge for up to 2 days.

Serving Suggestions

Oreo mug cake definitely needs a tall glass of cold milk to go along with it! There’s just nothing like Oreos and milk. As for the cake itself, you can top it with something decadent like White Hot Fudge Sauce or something cold and creamy like Vanilla Ice Cream. Of course, if you want a super-fast, super-simple topping, grab a can of Reddi-Wip!
