Old Fashion Salmon Patties, just like grandma used to make.

There is nothing quite like those old family recipes that bring back all the nostalgia of childhood. The sights, the sounds, and the smells transport me back to helping Grandma in the kitchen. This old-fashioned salmon patties recipe does exactly that, and making it at home now always reminds me of those wonderful home-cooked meals as a kid. If I close my eyes, I can still see Nana dancing around the kitchen, listening to oldies, and singing. These are the same type of memories we are trying to pass on to the next generation.
Our old-fashioned salmon patties recipe is incredibly simple, easy to make, and bursting with flavor. Just because it’s easy doesn’t mean it lacks flavor, oh no. This southern staple is incredibly flaky, tender, and delicious with just the right amount of everything. This is a wonderful recipe to get the kids involved with as well, a real hands-on learning experience you can pass down from generation to generation.Â

This is one of those go-to weeknight recipes when you are looking for a quick and tasty dinner option. This time-saving recipe has an irresistible smell that’s sure to draw the attention of any hungry guest or family member. Not only are these flaky little salmon patties delicious, but they are actually pretty healthy for you as well. They are packed with protein, calcium, iron, and potassium and contain loads of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

How to Make Ahead and Store?
To make these old-fashioned salmon patties ahead of time, I recommend a few options. First, you can make them just like the recipe says. Then, place them on a baking tray in an oven preheated to 200°F and keep them warm until you are ready to serve them. Second, you can form the patties ahead of time then cover them and place them in the fridge until you are ready to cook them. The patties will last three to four days in the fridge in an air-tight container or in the freezer for up to three months.
Can I use fresh salmon?
Yes, you can. We just recommend using the canned salmon as it usually comes skinless and deboned. Plus, you can keep the canned salmon on hand for those quick weeknight dinners.

Serving Suggestions
These old-fashioned salmon patties are a dinner delight just as they are, but with a few extra flavors, you can create a whole new experience for your palate. Adding in a pinch of Old Bay seasoning will give your patties a wonderful Cajun flair, and fresh dill, green onions, or chives add a lovely freshness. Using dipping sauces is also a great way to complement the flavors of these salmon patties, as well. A few sauces we love are lemon and dill aioli, Caesar dressing, Thousand Island, and tartar sauce.
To help round out your meal, we have some wonderful side dishes we recommend also. This Caprese Salad or this Greek Pasta Salad are flavor-packed options, and our Pesto Pasta Salad is a personal favorite. Whatever you decide to pair with these lovely old-fashioned salmon patties is sure to be a real treat.
